The IBM WebSphere MQ Administrator is responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, and supporting IBM WebSphere MQ (now IBM MQ) environments across multiple platforms. This role ensures secure, reliable, and high performance messaging between distributed systems.
L2 and L3 responsibilities include incident resolution, environment optimization, advanced troubleshooting, automation, and involvement in architecture/design discussions.
Design and implement MQ architecture, including HA/DR setups using MQ clustering or multi instance queue managers.
Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for high severity or recurring issues.
Handle performance tuning of MQ queue managers, channels, and message throughput.
Implement advanced security: CHLAUTH rules, SSL certificates, MCA user restrictions.
Manage capacity planning, sizing, and growth forecasting.
Upgrade MQ versions, apply fix packs, and plan for platform migrations.
Integrate MQ with IBM Integration Bus (IIB/ACE), API gateways, or cloud platforms.
Create and maintain detailed documentation (SOPs, architecture diagrams, troubleshooting guides).
Mentor L1/L2 team members and review their work.
Participate in major incident management and change advisory board (CAB) discussions
